I kind of wonder why 1/3 of
Major League Baseball has an off day this Memorial Day holiday. Whether or not it's in-line with the "true meaning" of the holiday, I would think that a holday at the start of the unofficial US summer would be a great day for fans to catch a game at the ballpark or on TV. I'm sure there's a business reason for it, but I can't figure it out.

I think it's just another part of the messed-up schedule. Interleague play, uneven divisions (in terms of number of teams), and the severely unbalanced schedule are all contributing factors, I guess. The Reds did play on Memorial Day, but they started a new series in Houston. They played the Pirates in Cincinnati Friday through Sunday, then traveled to Houston to play an afternoon game on Monday, followed by night games in Houston on Tuesday and Wednesday. This would have been the perfect weekend for one of those "wraparound" (Friday through Monday) four-game series. I don't like those for normal weekends, but they make perfect sense for holiday weekends.
