I don't think I've ever seen the movie, but the horse Phar Lap is still revered here in Victoria. It only won one Melbourne Cup but pretty much won everything else at huge weights. Recently, a horse called Makybe Diva won the Melbourne Cup for the third time in a row, something no horse has done since the race started in 1861. There's a good photo of Phar Lap winning the cup on this page - look at the people in the crowd!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Cup
Melbourne Cup day is a public holiday for all Victorians, however, other states unofficially finish work at 2:30pm that day to watch the race.
Interesting, the skin of a dead horse. I have no knowledge of this famouse horse, so sad. Anyways, I just wanted to respond to your post, and to let you know that I have decided to meremly hold off on the Russian, although I may well start some sort of "learn Russian" program on my own as you suggested. I thank you for your words of experience, I'm sure you saved me from quite a crazy quarter of terror. Anyways, Grace and Peace to you. Corrie

Did they enjoy it?
Yes, they liked it. But my older daughter didn't want to watch it again because of the sad (real life) ending.
I see that I'm wearing the same shirt in two posts in a row!
