When, at the 50-yard line before the game, the referee told the Michigan and Texas captains, "Mickey will toss the coin", I just had to change the channel.

Err...I don't get it. Is Mickey a silly word for Michigan?
I'm sorry that this post wasn't very clear enough. A quick look didn't turn up any images of the coin toss. "Mickey" is short for "Mickey Mouse", as in the Disney character. They had a guy (or girl) dressed up as the rodent on the field with the referees and players to toss the coin.
This could be because because Mickey Mouse was the grand marshal of the Rose Parade this year, but I still couldn't stand to watch it.
