Lately at work, I've been discussing work-related things with a developer in France via e-mail. As you know*, an API is an "Application Program Interface". However, in the e-mail from France, it was spelled APÏ. I guess the e-mail hadn't yet met its quota of diaereses**.
* Or, as anyone with internet access can determine by entering "define: API" at Google.
** No, this is not an intestinal ailment.

That's odd. I don't think "Ï" is a French character, is it? Come to think of it, I don't know which language uses it. I don't think it's German either.

well dave, thanks for all the advice! i think 4 now i will be sticking with the nursing plan. but with room to change should i be rejected from the program. anyway, i hope your car feels better soon!
JES is right–it's not German. German commonly uses Ä, ä, Ö, ö, Ü, u, and ß.
Maybe the developer hits this character on his French keyboard accidentally a lot. I'm just guessing, as I find it curious too.
