The New Musician

(Considering what a used flute costs these days, if she decides she doesn't want to play it, I'll learn to play flute...)

Funny you say that - we're about to buy an old piano, which, if unused can just be a lovely piece of furniture!

Hey Dave - why not take lessons why her ala Dave Gilmour and his step-son. He even sat exams when they learned to play the sax together. It was the first time he learned to read music.

DFV - Does this mean we're finally getting the band back together? I don't mind if we have to play rag-time gathered around in your palour. I'll even grow a handlebar moustache.

Seriously, I hope to learn to play a little flute along with her. Or, I can always play my trombone. (It's September, so I am practicing that again.)

I always thought it would be really complicated to play an instrument that has a lot of keys, e.g. flute, clarinet, or saxophone. I played trumpet when I was in school. With only three valves, it seems like it would be relatively easy to learn to play. Of course, the tricky part with the trumpet is tightening or loosening your lips to play higher or lower notes. The high D and high F, for example, are both played with the first valve down, so you can easily play the wrong note if you aren't careful. It's interesting that I say it would be complicated to learn to play an instrument with a lot of keys, because I also played piano through my junior high and high school years. A piano has 88 keys!
